Story “My home is a castle”, by Itziar Fernández Cortés

Hello to all and to all:

My name is Itziar Fernández Cortés, I am a child psychotherapist expert in trauma and gender violence. Since 2017 I am pleased to to collaborate with Espirales CI in its investigations into the reality of children, violated and adolescents from human rights approach to different entities such as Spanish UNICEF Committee or SOS Children's Villages Spain.

But what brings me here today is not sharing the results of these experiences, but a more personal project, which it is directly linked to the situation we are experiencing due to the pandemic arising from the rapid expansion of the coronavirus, and the development of the story illustrated My home is a castle With Lorena Zamora Blanco as an illustrator and published by Hilo Editions, which it is for free download.

We are many psychologists that we felt challenged to contribute to improving the mental health of people in confinement, everyone have received videos and guides that we recommend how to cope with fear and anxiety as calmly as possible, devoting our time to various tasks. Never before did both sports indoors.

For families, the task is doubly complicated, as well as cope with their own emotional state, should convey calm and security, accompanying emotional states of children in charge. All this, reconciling work and family life.

We know how important it is to inform children about what is happening in a clear and simple, adapted to their age. We also know how important it is to carry out various activities throughout the day. But how can we transmit it in a playful way to encourage their involvement?

It is important not to let it be "distracted" with the TV or video games forever because "we feel sorry that they can not leave", or "fairly they are enduring". Nor should we turn homework in daily obligation, downplaying other tasks, both children, as for adults, They are necessary for a proper balance in everyday life.

The objective of My home is a castle It is helping families to give structure to the day, with a simple script than ten kinds of tasks that can develop daily, which identifies what skills are developed for each type of activity.

It is not a set of proposals, but a wrapper for the same, and an excuse for communication where each family must adapt them according to their tastes, spaces, time and materials available.

Internet is a wonderful window into the world that brings us closer to creative ideas that other people have previously developed. You find pages of meditation and relaxation child, dance tutorials, physical training routines, recipes adapted to every age, pages simple paper crafts, paperboard, milk cartons ...

Fortunately, We have a virtual level all! We just need to spend a little time.

And time is just what you have given us.

Video “Jumping” Pixar to explain the resilience

In training we are giving Pepa Horno and F. Javier Romeo to SOS Children's Villages in Latin America and the Caribbean we are dealing in depth the topic of resilience. It is an online course for professionals from various relevant regional office of this prestigious international NGO dedicated to protecting children through children's homes countries, an organization we admire and we support our training and our advice in a while.

This resilience training started each session with a specific video to provoke reflection (cognitively and emotionally). And the keys are resisting resilience, remade and even strengthened.

In this video, qualified “Jumping” in Spanish (English “Boundin'”), Pixar (2003), we can see a fun and shocking at the same time the ability of the lamb to process a difficult situation: resist the situation, but also remade and even strengthened with external resources (in this case a guide resilience, the “conejílope” or antlered rabbit).

We hope the video will prove useful for comment children that you have around you at this time.

“Empty”, Anna story about resilience Llenas

Since CI Spirals We try to echo awareness materials we found and we seem valuable, especially those created for children.

vacio_anna_llenasThese materials sometimes we send them, and sometimes appear in our personal search. This is the case of Empty, a story written and illustrated by Anna Llenas, which it has been published by Barbara Fiore Editora, and I found in “Paper tower”, an incredible library that I discovered in Ciutadella (Menorca).

Anna Llenas and is an illustrator known for creating very beautiful books about emotions for children and a great educational potential. The monster colors It is a benchmark in this topic, and The labyrinth of the soul collects very beautiful texts about different emotions and actually includes some that are usually not usually found in this type of book.

But Empty deserves special mention because of the subject we work. And drawing the cover caught my attention, empty since the girl was just in your gut, and that's just an image that I use constantly in my work, of the “guts”. So I stopped, and I opened. I imagined not find such a treasure. Rarely have I found a story that describes with such certainty the process of resilience that we start to face the pain. The protagonist is a girl, but it could be any of the people I've met in therapy, or at conferences or courses.

This is the video summary of the story, which includes only the beginning, does not disclose the final, how the child manages to cope with their loss. The story picks up in my opinion all technically important about: monsters coming out of the vacuum, the false closures, emotional dependence, vertigo, the tears, the reunion with the interior, the personal garden, The different approach on the other, new experiences, affective network and the vacuum level. But everything from the poetic language, unpayable images and magical colors.

In short reading for our children, for people with whom we work and end for the souls of us all (and they can be obtained ideas online resources from the author). I recommend it strongly. Hope you enjoy it as much as the IM.

“La Casa del Mar Calma”, story for children who are victims of gender violence

Today is the International Day Against Gender Violence. And as in the past, Spirals CI since we take the opportunity to increase the visibility of children victims of domestic violence and demand an accurate attention to their specific needs and characteristics.

baner_la_casa_del-marBut we can not always do that bringing such a sensitive material like this story. La Casa del Mar Calma It is a story written by Cortés Fernández Itzíar, specializing in care for women and children victims of domestic violence and illustrated by Lorena Zamora psychologist. He has been promoted and financed by the Association of Women Opañel.

I have had the privilege of writing the prologue to the story. The story tells children that come to an emergency shelter protection system how the center, what will happen in it and name the emotions that children may be living in these times.

This story is a necessary tool as far as poor. Develop tools tailored to the specific needs of child victims of gender violence, his language and understanding. As I say in the foreword, “It takes an infinite delicacy, many hours of watching and listening to these children and their mothers, Pour tenderness and preserve the look of your inner child” to write a story well. From here I reiterate my congratulations on a job like this and my thanks for writing, illustrate and publish.

violencia_de_genero_canariasAnd linked with this we want from spreading CI Spirals other material which collect part of the work I've developed on this issue and I find a complete guide to address it. It is the Guide attention to child victims of domestic violence of Canary Islands Institute of Equality, a detailed and comprehensive manual intervention from its title recognizes children, and adolescents (while still calling mistakenly under) for what they are: direct victims of male violence.

Celebrate a day like this talking about resources from various professional and geographical areas are being developed to meet their victims, women and children, It is certainly the best tribute we can make them, in the pain and injustice that involves gender violence.

Story “Green eyes” prevention of child sexual abuse

ojos_verdesIt is always a joy to have new materials for the prevention of sexual abuse, especially when they are tailored to children. So it is a pleasure to welcome the Book Green eyes. Story about sexual abuse prevention, published by ONION in electronic format free access, for wide dissemination.

Written by Sara Arteaga (psychologist) and Luisa Fernanda Yaguez (psychologist whom we know Pepa and I, among other things for their invaluable work in the ANAR Foundation) and with delicate illustrations by Lucia Lupiañez, This tale tells the story of a child who suffers sexual abuse, and how he overcomes.

There are many reasons to recommend this book, and I want to emphasize the following:

  • It is aimed at Primary Education, between the 6 and 12 years, on a subject for which not many materials aimed at children. It is well made, with an appropriate typeface, type story, and appropriate illustrations, that transmit serenity within a complicated issue.
  • Addresses in great detail what is most important with children: previous (how the abuser tries to lure them with gifts and secrets), internal indicators (how the key is how the boy or girl feels, “listening to your gut” as Pepa say) and the recommended response (boys and girls tell their trusted adults). And avoid going into gory details, I really do not serve to protect. If after reading arise in adult conversation with someone, They can be addressed, but it is not something that the text raised as early.
  • It gives a clearly positive and hopeful message: of child sexual abuse can go out and retrieve a happy life (if the environment supports the child or the child and provides appropriate responses).
  • And it is accompanied by a reading guide and guidance for families (and professionals).

For all this from Spiral Consulting Children Congratulations to all those who have contributed to the appearance of this book, and we wish you a widely. By the time I pointed me to the next training that will teach prevention of child sexual abuse from family.

I hope you enjoy and that you can take advantage of the children in your environment.

The transmission of values in children

Values are part of our essence, are our rules of conduct that allow us to conduct ourselves according to what we believe is right or wrong.

upsocl_ocho_videosMothers and fathers are directly responsible for the transmission of values to our children, and the main way to do this is by example. Our behaviors, our speech and direct others, our tolerance and fellowship, among other things, are the ways that children learn to value their behaviors and those of others.

Besides values education helps improve relationships based on mutual respect and allows us to feel comfortable in the environment we live.

Now that the holidays begin and we have more time to spend with our children I would like to share 8 short films to teach values (such as friendship, team work, respect the rights of others, gender equality, achieve what you want) compiled by UPSOCL, a website that collects and disseminates inspirational videos that we follow and we've recommended in the past, and seize this moment to talk and know what our children think about it. I'm sure many of us we will surprise us your comments.

I hope you enjoy these videos and holidays.

Regards,

Lucia Losoviz
