“Invisible Victims”: Report of the Ombudsman about human trafficking in Spain

From Spirals CI we repeatedly echoed reports, materials and studies relating to the issue of child trafficking, and adolescents (can see it in our social tag “is”).

We do it because child trafficking, and adolescents is one of our specific work items. From consulting impart specific training on children is a professional regional protection systems and municipal social services. This training allowed us to observe firsthand the ignorance and lack of information that exists on this issue in Spain.

Therefore, no hesitation in releasing the report presented today by the Ombudsman whose title speaks for itself: “Invisible Victims”. And we encourage you to, at least, you read the summary of it that you can find here.

From here our thanks to Ms. Soledad Becerril and the institution he represents by addressing the issue. Not only that, also acknowledge that the report of a political and social priority to claims that NGOs and other institutions we have done on this subject for years and do institutionally supported by the research conducted by the Office of the Ombudsman.

Good thing in this report has a specific focus on children, and adolescent victims of trafficking to become visible in the absence of resources to attend to them that adolecemos.

We would have liked perhaps a greater force in some aspects of the report, because the magnitude and severity of the problem so require. And also because the problem of trafficking affects us all and all in some of the points that we as a society must hurt:

1. Spain is a receptor, producer and transit for trafficking networks, and particularly for child victims. Investigations of NGOs have made visible to some of the main routes that follow these networks. Namely, we are a country that produce “demand” for illegal business holding this offense and this violation of human rights.

2. The shortage of skilled resources in this topic, and insecurity from which they work there, we know firsthand, Reportable something like a double violation of the rights of victims of trafficking, that not only are abused, sold or sold and razed inwardly, but also do not have sufficient resources to turn to these resources or are conditioned and too often determine their legal status.

3. Children, and adolescent victims of trafficking are there, but the system is not ready for viewing. The question is if it is because he can not or does not want.

We hope that reports such as these give to the problem of human trafficking in Spain the priority it deserves. And do it for all its victims, are women, men, boys or girls.

The face and the voice of children is

Trafficking of children is one of the forms of human slavery more degrading. What is human trafficking in general, but child trafficking, and adolescents is even more invisible if possible. It's overwhelming lack of knowledge of society about the magnitude of the reality of trafficking, the lack of involvement at the individual level, state institutions and the eradication of this phenomenon that has become the second most lucrative in the world, second only to drug trafficking, but even more lucrative arms trafficking.

Children, and adolescents are victims of extreme forms of violence and unimaginable to us, especially when they want to know. This video allows us to break that barrier: after seeing it and can not do as if we knew, because we have first-person.

I'll take a phrase: “No one had ever cried for me, I never wanted anyone… since then has been a turnaround in my life”.

Because you can. We get them out. We love them.

Children from Spiral Consulting we ask you to see this video in the program developed MTV EXIT, and we thank Unicef, MTV and the singers of St. 13 for making it possible.

Trafficking Movie: “Human Trafficking”

Another movie very useful to understand the phenomenon of child trafficking, and adolescents with sexual exploitation Human Trafficking, translated into Castilian as “Human Trafficking”, although the correct translation would be “Human Trafficking”. The confusion of terms when translating from English to Castilian is often, and therefore it is important to note that the term “Traffic” corresponds to the English “smuggling” (people who are trafficked are at normal according, and pay for the service of the gangs that lead to other countries), and “is” is the correct term to translate “traffic” (people who have it do not always leave a country, and consent to the final activities, though first time may agree with the proposals (false) that they had done).

The film, conceived as a miniseries, tells what happens when a seventeen-year-old from Ukraine, Czech single mother and an American girl of tourism in the Philippines are victims of a network of trafficking for prostitution. A team of agents from the Immigration and Customs struggle to expose the organization which coordinates the network.

The film provides an overview of policing (within the U.S. legal framework) against the Mafia as well as displays various kinds of human dramas (victims, their families, different levels of interventions traffickers and security forces. For its duration allows a better understanding of different processes, both the victims and traffickers, giving a fairly complete picture of the problem.

The film has no official website, but you can find much data on it in the Wikipedia entry (English).

Essential to glimpse the complexity of the problem of child trafficking, children and adolescents for sexual exploitation. Hope you like it.

Book and film deals: “The year that trafficked women”

The issue of child trafficking, children and adolescents for sexual exploitation has long been insufficient attention in Spain. Among the few works aimed at the general public about trafficking in Spain are the reviews on this entry.

The journalist identified as Antonio Salas conducted research on trafficking in persons for sexual exploitation in Spain 2003, he picked up in a TV report with hidden camera recordings in the book The year that trafficked women (Today's Issues, Madrid, 2004).

Tells them how he posed as pimp, local knowledge of alternate throughout Spain, research from prostitutes working in street prostitution to luxury, to describe the reality of trafficking in Spain. Both the book and the story are very hard, with the aggravation of knowing that the people featured are real, although some data have changed or have pixelated the faces. Especially interesting is the fact of putting names and stories to what is usually seen as global data and statistics.

The year after the publication of the book the film was made with the same name, with a script that leaves only some elements of original research. It has the advantage of providing an overview of trafficking for sexual exploitation in Spanish society, but is more focused on traffickers and victims and clients unless.

I hope you find it of interest.

Trafficking Movie: “Trade: the price of innocence”

In the series of entries with resources related to child trafficking, children and adolescents for sexual exploitation, recommend the film Trade: the price of innocence, Marco Kreutzpaintner.

Is oriented toward the United States and Mexico, tells the story of Adriana, girl 13 years Mexico City who is kidnapped to take the United States as prostitute. His brother 17 years, Jorge, sets out to save. In pursuit intersects Ray, a Texan police, to also suffer a loss in their own family because trafficking, ally becomes the boy in his quest. Adriana will be accompanied by a young Polish mother, has been trafficked from Poland to Mexico, also to be ridden U.S..

It is a hard film, As expected on the issue, that allows a first approach to trafficking in minors for sexual exploitation and to know the lives that those who are involved: victims (children, and adolescents, and adult women), their families, traffickers and some customers and the security forces.

Reference (in Spain): Trade: the price of innocence / Marco Kreuzpaintner; [S. l.] : Vertex Film, 2009. (See information on Wikipedia).

Trafficking Movie: “Lilya forever”

We follow the cycle of tickets resources related to child trafficking, children and adolescents for sexual exploitation, starting movie recommendations. We begin by Lilya forever (Lilja 4-ever), the Lukas Moodysson.

Centered is produced in the countries of the former USSR to the rich countries of Europe, presenta a Lilya, Russian Teenager 16 years, abandoned by her mother, leading a miserable life in an impoverished town in the former Soviet Union. Surrounded by drugs and poverty and the sole support of Volodia, a child with their own problems, the only way he can eat is selling her body. Hope the day comes when you know the lure Andrei, that promises a better life in Sweden. But life is not what I had expected…

It's a very hard film, that relates the steps that go into a life giving Lilya increasingly complex, and how Degradation is gradually producing. To understand the personal risk factors, child and family social, and adolescents who are becoming victims of trafficking.

The film has no official website, but you can read about it in the Wikipedia entry. Although it is now out of print in Spain, available in Spanish and many public libraries is available in other languages.

Reference (in Spain): Lilya forever (Lilja 4-ever) / direction and screenplay by Lukas Moodysson; [Madrid] : Versus Entertainment, DL. 2007.

I recommend it if you want to know the internal processes of child and youth victims of trafficking, I hope you enjoy it and stirs.

Documentary Network against Trafficking NNACE

In the coming weeks we will be tele-teaching “Child trafficking, children and adolescents for sexual exploitation: Comprehensive care for victims” of General Directorate of Social Policy, of Families and Children Ministry of Health, Social Policy and Equality for the materials we design 2010.

One of the materials we recommend is this video released by Red NNACE UNICEF Ecuador on child trafficking, children and adolescents for sexual exploitation.

This video brings together the voices of several teenagers who tell how they became sexually exploited in your country, Ecuador, how they lived and what they want to do once they have been rescued.

We hope this video will help create awareness of a broader problem, and which speaks so little.

Video on human trafficking: Listen

Trafficking in women, children is one of the human rights violations more egregious that a person can suffer, but also for Spanish society and citizens of many others is something remote and difficult to understand in perspective, since it is something outside their everyday reality, that seems to touch our lives.

But, networks remain trafficking because trafficking in women, children is a lucrative business (the third largest with arms trafficking and drugs) This is so because there are customers for this business. And customers leave our country, out of Spain, out of our daily lives.

Video “Listen” Mabel Lozano produced by the Ministry of Equality in the activities developed under the National Plan Against Trafficking in Women reflects pain, anguish and suffering ongoing violence victims, but above all reflects the indifference found in many minds.

And that is perhaps the worst dregs is to see you. At least to me. Judge for yourselves.
