Project “Renewing from within”

Portada del documento "Renovando desde dentro"Sometimes life brings unexpected gifts.

At the beginning of the pandemic we were invited to participate in a group of people who have been cause for hope in these difficult times. Alberto Rodríguez and Javier Múgica took the initiative, and they invited us to the rest: Antonio Ferrandis, Marta Llauradó, Javier Soriano Romeu and, from CI Spirals, although in a personal capacity, Pepa Horno and F. Javier Romeo Biedermann. It is a group of people involved with the welfare of children, girls and adolescents who are in the protection system in Spain. What started as a series of online chats eventually evolved into an informal working group. And a year later we have the honor of presenting the results in a document that we have written collaboratively. We present them Renewing from within. Seven challenges and proposals to improve the child protection system in Spain.

And we invite you to download them The document, to read it and to send comments, ideas and proposals. Since the official website of the initiative we will continue to expand each of the proposals over the next few months. See you on that website.

With hope and awareness,

Pepa Horno and F. Javier Romeo

BBK Family: a program to support families in raising in Bizkaia

These days it has been publicly presented the program BBK Family driven BBK, and managed by Bidegintza and EDE Foundation for the whole territory of Bizkaia. They are making some adjustments to the website, so that you can see temporarily this link, until the home page is completed.

The aim of the project is as certain as necessary. Linking through a web and a dome will move throughout the country professional resources available to support the process of raising children, and adolescents with families who may need.

Through the website of the project every family has access to:

  • Resources that already exist in Bizkaia, not to be newly created.
  • Resources whose quality has been evaluated according to several parameters established for the project technically.
  • Resources that families may not know how to search, or where to locate, or you might not even know they exist and have them available.
  • Educational resources, or prevention awareness on issues related to raising.
  • Resources to intervene with some issues that families will have to face in the breeding process.
  • Resources to respond effectively to the specific needs of your child.
  • Support professionals: online counseling service that can answer questions and link families with the resources needed to address them.

This project creates networks between families and professionals, between organizations, associations and institutions and between the various municipalities of Bizkaia, with the ultimate goal of promoting the full development of children, and adolescents in Bizkaia through a conscious upbringing in their families.

For us as CI Spirals and for me personally, It has been a privilege to assist the process of creating this project and collaborate with some of their material. A professional privilege because this project is an example of the type of prevention resources and professional networks that promote from CI Spirals. But also a personal privilege to work with the team behind this project whose human professional rigor and quality are on par.

And privilege because they gave me the opportunity to systematize the work I do with families in three short videos that will link up here and those who try to give me the keys that are nuclear in conscious parenting:

  • How to generate positive emotional bonds with children, and adolescents.

  • Look inward as a condition of conscious parenting: the integration of our life story, self-care and emotional support networks.

  • In raising awareness: do the best we can, and know forgive mistakes.

Thank you for this privilege, for trusting in me to oversee its creation and videos to appear between reference for families. Congratulations to the BBK to support and promote a project of this type. A Bidegintza and EDE Foundation by managing it. And especially to the team that is led.

Interview with Pepa Horno on child violence in Spain Spanish Committee for UNICEF

few days ago Spanish UNICEF Committee He offered me the opportunity to participate in a Facebook Live on its website whose video It is having a very large spread these days.

The theme was on violence against children in Spain and the need arose from the social alarm created by recent cases of assaults committed by adolescents in our country.

This is the video if you want to see. It's long, hard forty minutes. As I said before it took place, violence against children in Spain is a painful subject, complex and delicate and needs to be treated with the extension that deserves to not be reduced to a series of reductionist headlines, and as such false in any way.

Along with video, I also wanted to spread the sources from which the data came I mentioned. The Statistics National Statistics Institute on child deaths, and adolescents in 2016. On the other hand, the polivictimización study of children, and adolescents in the protection system and reform of Naomi Pereda, Abad Judit and Georgina Guilera of 2014, “Victimization protection in young children and adolescents and juvenile justice”.

For more than twenty years working on this subject and I have seen the social change that is being given to this issue, which is one of the most painful human faces. Violence against children, and adolescents and that they exert causes us fear, our basic security questions, that feeling we all need that are safe, that the people we love are safe, and especially, that our children are safe. Safe from being victims of aggression and safe from assaulting another person, is another child or adult.

I myself happen. Every time you interview me I look at the stats. And the numbers are so brutal, and year after year after year remain unmet, I myself I force myself not to look too statistics. Looking at them gives me the same bellyache with which I went to bed the night before this video, the same tears, the same pain. the same, in. Plus. Because we have many years knowing what we have to do without it. Many years allowing child deaths, and adolescents. Many years looking the other way.

This is not new, man looks away very often to what confronts their fragility and their misery. We look away when other children are more easily when they are ours. But we do. They do the rulers, They make political, but they do also defining the academic curriculum related professional children still without changing to include academic programs abuse so that people who should detect: doctors, teachers, psychologists, social workers, social workers… know how. They do each and every one of the professionals who know, intuit or have certainty and they look away. We do families when we decided not to talk about it to our children. Does every citizen who hears, intuited, look and decides not to report.

And year after year I'm looking at a single figure. I do not even go to the big numbers, I small and extreme. I'll murders and suicides among children, and adolescents. In 2016, 17 children killed in homicides and 70 who have committed suicide. And every so often when they give me the opportunity and I got it here, I go out publicly and say, with a mixture of sorrow, cry and cry.

Because it's true that things have changed a lot, Already much better. It is undeniable social progress to this topic, changing attitudes and visibility is having. Are real resources to address it, the advancement of specialized resources to assist those who are victims of abuse, adults who were children and continue to suffer for it and children, and adolescents who bully others. Progress is undeniable and gives meaning to what we do and many others.

But we still die. In a year 87. 87. And we do not even know the faces of many of them. Neither their names. Neither his pain. And they are only the tip of an indescribable pain that nests in those that survived, children who continue to survive and children living still trembling in the hearts of so many adults who work and live with us.

And when the night before looked at the figures and rage and anguish came over me, the pain that invisible pain within our own home, I returned again to a promise I made a long time ago: I'll keep screaming their names.

Pd. If anyone wants to know more about this subject, leave here linked several blog entries you write while on the subject. On the one hand, political analysis of the situation of violence against children in Spain we published when it was created in 2014 the Subcommittee on violence against children in the Congress of Deputies. For another, I published a post on the blog Do not ask Calma just call Counting our dead the number of violent deaths of children, and adolescents in our country. And we publish another entry on the importance of give voice to victims. And last, the said guide we produce for UNICEF Spanish Committee in its program of Child Friendly Cities initiatives that municipalities can develop to address this problem.

Interview with Pepa Horno on families and education

gestionando-hijosThis week has gone published an interview I did for managing children. It is a website on issues related to parenting and education, and since his name is born with an interesting target and we have always shared from Espirales CI: linking parenting education and awareness.

But also they suggest that the principles of quality and performance improvement that could be valid for any business project are also to these two realities. Both the contents and experts working on the web worth.

I leave the interview here is useful if you. The echoes we have received through social networks have led us to disseminate also here.

Thanks to the team that makes possible the web for this opportunity.

Children in Web Data: a great small step

Last September Ministry of Health, Social Services and Equality (MSSSI) and Spanish UNICEF Committee They presented in a public ceremony and sober, but not devoid of great importance I, the website Data childhood.

infancia_en_datosIt is a website that provides access to a system of child welfare indicators by sex, age and origin in Spain and Autonomous Communities. Said system comprises 7 dimensions, 25 components and 47 indicators drawn from official sources available, including subjective indicators in the analysis of social welfare of children, and adolescents. The website also has a section that lists all current legislation regarding childhood and adolescence but, two months after the launch of the web, it is still under construction. For its part, Documentation tab refers to regional and national statistical sources, documents and periodic reports and civil society entities of reference for their studies or activism in favor of the rights of children.

The proponents of this initiative, the Directorate General of Services for Families and Children and UNICEF attached to MSSSI stressed that it is a tool of transparency that will enable all citizens to monitor public policies affecting children.

The web has the merit of gathering all available information in a systematic way according to indicators of wellbeing and will be of great help to professionals from various fields, especially timesaving, They need to consult data on children to better guide their planning and intervention. Handling is agile page, interactive and enjoyable and allows multiple query formats. also, there is a space for comments or suggestions, which proves the idea transmitted by Unicef during the event that a system of indicators is a living evolving project that will grow with contributions from everyone.

Data childhood paves the way to follow the recommendation that the Committee on the Rights of the Child – body of independent experts that monitors implementation of the Convention on the Rights of the Child by States Parties- Spain made their Concluding remarks the 2010 to strengthen its data collection mechanism. In this sense, It is a crucial first step. However, surf the web reveals the absence in Spain of important data of the reality of childhood and adolescence and the dissonance between state and regions and between them in terms of methodology, type of indicators and periodicity of data collection. And this absence is attributable only to the public authorities. As far back as 2010 the Committee on the Rights of the Child had referred with concern to "Fragmented approach to data collection, which does not cover all the areas covered by the Convention and is performed unevenly at regional and national levels ".

In a state where the core competencies regarding children but not all- They are decentralized, It is absolutely essential to have a system of disaggregated data, consistent and comparable to the various levels of government to make the right and informed decisions based on a thorough diagnosis of the reality of childhood and adolescence. also, is key coordination between regions and between the institutions of the same community to record all violations of rights that occur in it and harmonize quality standards in caring for children.

Only in this way you can better know the problems affecting children, adolescents and themselves visible inequalities and imbalances between the territories. Addition, data allow society to become aware of the value and position of children and are a valuable tool to sensitize public opinion. On the other hand, transparency invites adults and children to participate and propose actions. Without forgetting that the statistics -and hence perhaps its shortage- They are prerequisite in preparing the budget for the implementation of a law, plan o protocolo…

Part of that lack of statistical data at all administrative levels is closely related to the lack of mechanisms of complaint free, anonymous, known accessible and available to children, and adolescents, regardless of their status, his age and where the violation of rights occurs. Starting with public structures with which children and adolescents enters or can contact and sometimes are perpetrators of violence. Complaint, identifying cases, prevention, rights protection and data collection go hand in hand and feed.

The lack of statistics on the facts affecting children implies the invisibility and absolute lack thereof and, thus, its perpetuation. In the field of protection, Spiral has been claiming the need for public bodies to invest in the design of a system to identify vulnerable groups and implement policies to prevent violence. Refine your statistics to the different manifestations of physical violence, psychological and sexual (bullying, sexting, grooming, suicides, Killings, revictimization, institutional violence, evictions, and so on.) equivalent to taking appropriate and specific measures to prevent the occurrence. Knowing the facts is equivalent to medium and long term to decrease the number of victims.

Since the website only gives the data available and that the records are not harmonized and abuse are voluntary at regional level, protection dimension is blurred and very partially reflected, leaving out a large number of caseloads. But perhaps precisely here resides the potential impact of Data childhood: highlight all that remains to be done and encourage all stakeholders to fill gaps. The benefits of knowing reality through the data for the welfare of children are immeasurable but hone in statistics means, inescapably, outright institutional commitment to devote financial resources, human and time.

As already pointed out on other occasions CI Spirals, it would also be desirable to modify the registry approach. Actually, data collection focuses on the author or author of fact and is based on cases of violence that end up being prosecuted or passing through the protective system, or the security of the state. So what about cases of bullying, or violence through undetected by specialized units red, or the children of victims of trafficking, or suicides, boys and girls evicted, and so on.? The lives of children, and adolescents takes place in a wide range of places and they all violations can occur, so that the data must come from across these spaces.

Change the focus to the victim and that the records must be filling with comparable methodology would allow homologous and account for all cases. And above all, contribute to that there is no child in our country suffer in silence. None else to not attend the state for failing the means of identification required. And statistics should not stop at the identification but should keep track of how you have helped the victims and their rights have been restored. No policy without evaluating fully implemented and no case either registered without knowing if there was intervention, rehabilitation and reparations.

To ensure the sustainability of an effective system for collecting data, necessary institutional and political commitment seamless long term both in implementing the system and its constant updating. Data childhood It is certainly a great small step toward protecting the rights of children. It could be the first piece of gear prevention and protection of rights that we build childhood professionals closely with politicians and all relevant actors and, especially, with the children of our country.

A different education

In recent years a fabric is consolidated network moving crowd, people, partnerships and initiatives to transform the current educational model. Since the lines involving an express break with the system, as may be the Homeschooling, or Free Schools, to more structured options as Waldorf schools or Montessori schools. Just check out the exponential growth experiences Alternative education in Spain.

But I do not just talk about movements around forms of schooling more or less different, but of movements designed to transform and educators, to give a new look to their work and to the accompaniment performing in the evolutionary process of children. Movements like All we learned, o los conferences on excellence in education, or holistic education… and many others (forgive me if you do not count them all, in fact) represent a comprehensive effort to transform the role of the teacher and his awareness of its importance.

In the same way that prevention is the only effective tool and validated for the eradication of child abuse, It seems to be a consensus on the fact that education can be the only real way to change society. Education understood not only as schooling but as the process of accompaniment by families, school and other caregivers substitutes for children, especially in its first seven years of life. Education occurs in homes, the schools, communities and alternative care, they are as they are structured and trained all.

Too many people, from too many perspectives, and with very different backgrounds they agree on the urgent need for transformation of the educational process. We in CI Spirals We pretend to be part of that process. And do it especially since that second look, look to educator. In recent years we have been receiving a growing demand for training on emotional education in all areas in which we work, especially the education sector, social and health. We have also made a major effort to transform our workshops, supervisions and evaluations, among others, to emphasize not only the content of each action but how we perform. Therefore we can say knowingly that the movement of transformation that is taking place around education is now undeniable.

I want to emphasize some of the key in which this process should be based. There would be many more, but today I want to prioritize three for reflection that may arise:

First, education should integrate the knowledge we have already on child brain development, result of advances in neuroscience. The processing of information is the first physical, then finally emotional and cognitive. That course, and no other, You must follow any learning that pretend to convey to children. A body learning, experiential and emotional constitute the scaffolding on which a senior executive functions fully developed will be integrated. This scheme is necessary to incorporate the education at all levels, turning motion, contact with nature, learning to manage emotions and group project work and many other aspects of non-negotiable elements of the educational process. At school, but also in homes and in schools.

Second, the consciousness of the educator, families are, teachers or educators in a center. The consciousness that the people who work with children are able to put on the needs of each child, on the final objectives sought, rhythms to adapt and to be on their own strengths and weaknesses to do, make a difference in the educational action in any field. Consciousness can not be limited only to technical training, but does not include, but should focus on the look and educators have towards the children and the elements of his personal and emotional history that determine the relationship established with them.

And third, the importance of the network and the community as a generator of stimulus, link, protection, relevance and resilience. The human being has two universal basic needs: feel safe and feel loved. And to satisfy both needs depends on others. You can not contemplate education alone, or full of specialties and subspecialties that blur, if not canceled, the ability of the individual to the meeting, the bond, integration and resilience. Are families (They are as they are incorporated), communities that coexist in a school, the peer group, or the various players in the community who provide the joy, privacy, pleasure and sense. And these people grow afraid engines, resigned and motionless. Namely, damaged and painful.

And to put a full stop to this reflection I want to propose a video viewing psychiatrist and psychotherapist Chile Claudio Naranjo, Enneagram authority and promoter of one of the many educational reform movements focused on the educator and educational communities, not so much in the child. Claudio Naranjo It is a leader in transpersonal psychology and one of the leaders of some of my work in CI Spirals, and that, however, until now I had not spoken on this blog. In this video, I chose short on purpose because their statements are usually much longer, speaks keyword: consciousness, love, transcendence. Hear, worth.

Psychotherapy Networker, a resource to stay current in psychotherapy

Psychotherapy has an essential part of training in depth, and at the same time is very rewarding to know new approaches, new techniques, new ways to raise emerging issues. Updating and continuing education are part of the good practice of psychotherapy.

Psychotherapy Networker It is for me a very useful resource to keep abreast psychotherapy. Apart from other resources (videos, texts, specific numbers…), This organization publishes a bimonthly journal that appears in both paper and electronic format (Free access for two years), and each number has a thread, articles of professionals who have worked on the theme of the month, and references very interesting (in fact I've already bought several books after reading some articles, and I am very satisfied).

psychotherapy_networker

The website has many resources, and from here I want to recommend some articles and issues that seem particularly novel.

I leave you with good reading and I hope you enjoy it.

Campus Daniel Gabarro

There are people who shine. Daniel Gabarró is one of those persons. They are people who have a unique style, whose experiences and knowledge make them reach the world in an innovative way, easy to understand and above all, capable of transforming the lives of those who know.

Daniel has taught at all educational cycles for over twenty years and now works as a consultant, former, and many other things. And just released a new project that has caught Daniel Gabarró Campus, including content for personal growth, content for educators and what is most interesting in our case, some videos for children.

They are short videos, accompanied by documents in PDF with exercises to work the contents of each video. They are materials that can be used both families and educators to talk to children of topics from Spirals CI work and are not easy to treat. They collect the enthusiasm with which Daniel usually transmitted what they believe, and they do so with great clarity and simplicity. In fact, some videos transform and adapt some of the ideas I developed in A map of the affective and Listening to my “guts”, two of my recent publications that appeared just in its editorial Fog.

From here we encourage that ye see. Everything that you find on Campus, there will be, as it happened to us, suscribiréis things you and others not, things that will bring more light than others but we sense that almost certainly will open new perspectives.

And as far as I'm concerned, I have to thank Daniel his words and recognition for my work in any of the videos. His garden and his universe are part of me.

Blog “Across the red thread”

Post-adoption services that can provide guidance and support for adoptive families, once it is made adopting, It is one of the weakest points of our system of protection. Within these spaces, and we follow the line CI Spirals network to disseminate and generate those blogs ourselves and that we are a technical reference for us as professionals in the different topics where we work, we want to spread the blog “Across the red thread”.
