“Teaching to see the wounds of the soul. How to facilitate training on trauma in childhood and adolescence” F. Javier Romeo for SOS Children's Villages in Latin America and the Caribbean

I made the manual Accompanying the wounds of the soul. Trauma in childhood and adolescence and 2019 for SOS Children's Villages in its Regional Office for Latin America and the Caribbean, as a result of training protection professionals from each of the twenty National Associations. Moving forward in the process, its protection officers at the regional level proposed me to create a series of support materials, to expand the training of their teams and families, including the friendly guide the wounds of the soul. A guide to trauma for families and professionals, and this Didactic Guide.

as in other cases, two versions of the document are available, free download:

Is a “Didactic Guide” because it contains structured sessions to provide complete training on trauma, again with the illustrations of Zaida escobar (see Zaida Escobar's account on Instagram), that convey the key concepts with clarity and warmth, and with the layout of Valeria Losoviz, that helps to recognize in the document the same color code as the previous materials.

This Didactic Guide is structured based on the technical contents of the manual Accompanying the wounds of the soul and in the explanatory and visual resources of the Friendly Guide the wounds of the soul. A guide to trauma for families and professionals, and has the following elements:

  1. Preparation.
    • 1.1. What do we need to know.
    • 1.2. How we organize the sessions.
    • 1.3. How we create the environment for training.
    • 1.4. How we prepare our audience.
  2. How to do the activities.
    • Exercise 1: “Focusing the sessions”.
    • Exercise 2: "What do we call trauma?”.
    • Exercise 3: “What situations can cause trauma?”.
    • Exercise 4: How do we detect trauma??”.
    • Exercise 5: "How do we care for children?, girls and adolescents with trauma as an organization?”.
    • Exercise 6: “How do we best accompany children, traumatized girls and adolescents?”.
    • Exercise 7: “How do we keep moving forward??”.
  3. Tracing.
  4. To end: preparation, presence and networking.

The training is designed to be delivered in different formats, from an introductory training of two or three short sessions to a complete training. These are some guidelines (page 9 of the Didactic Guide).

Hourly distribution of the hourly distribution of trauma training (page 9 of the Didactic Guide).

I hope it will help you to facilitate training, and I'd love to know how it went.
